Improving your house

Begin
  1. Launch Blender and load factory settings.
  2. If you have a numpad, make sure NumLock is on.
  3. Load the house model you created in the "Quickie Model" module.
  4. If the 3D manipulator is active, disable it.
  5. Adjust the viewpoint until you can clearly see two walls of the house and two sides of the roof.
Creating a ground plane
  1. Place 3D cursor to the bottom of the house.
  2. Press TAB to enter the edit mode.
  3. Select the bottom vertices by shift+RMB.
  4. Press shift+s to bring up the snap menu.
  5. Choose Cursor to seleced.
  6. Press shift+a
  7. Choose Mesh->Plane to create a plane.
Scale the ground plane
  1. RMB to select the ground in object mode.
  2. Press S to active scale.
  3. Press 7 to enlarge the ground 7x.
  4. LMB to confirm your changes.
Extruding Edges
  1. Press TAB to the edit mode.
  2. Switch to vertex select mode.
  3. Just select the vertex at the peak of the roof.
  4. Press shift+s to bring up the snap menu.
  5. In snap menu , select Cursor to selected to move the 3D cursor to the peak.
  6. Use "Pivot" menu to change the pivot to "3D cursor".
  1. Switch to edge select mode.
  2. Select four edges at the base of the roof.
  3. press E to extrude.
  4. Press S to extrude by scaling.
  5. Move the mouse to expand the roof of your house.
  6. LMB to confirm your changes.
Face selection

  1. Choose face select mode.
  2. shift+RMB to select three faces (tow roof and a wall).
  3. Press E to extrude.
  4. Press X to extrude along to the X axis.
  5. Press 2 to expand by 2 units.
  6. LMB to confirm your changes.
  7. Choose edge select mode.
  8. Press X or delete to delete an extra edge.
Subdividing face
  1. Choose Face select mode.
  2. Select six wall faces by shift+RMB.
  3. Press W to bring up  the special menu.
  4. Choose subdivide in the special menu.
  5. Press F6 to bring up operator panel.
  6. Set the number of cut to 9.
Create window and door
  1. In View Persp.
  2. Press Tab to edit mode.
  3. Choose ViewPoint Shading to solid.
  4. In Front View.
  5. Press B to Border select mode.
  6. LMB drag a region then release the mouse to select a region for window and door.
  7. Press E to extrude it.
  8. Type -.1 then LMB to confirm your change.

    Quick Render

    Rendering the house model
    1. F1 or File->Open to load the house model.
    2. Select the file house.blend then LMB double click to open it.
    3. View -> Camera -> Active Camera to change viewpoint.
    4. F12 or Render -> Render Image to render.
    5. You can press F12 to render again or press ESC to leave the render window.
    Re-aiming the camera
    1. Press Num0 or View->Camera to take camera's viewpoint .
    2. Press Shift+F to re-aim the camera. Move the camera region by moving the mouse up ,down, left, right, scroll. 
    3. Press any key to exit the mode.
    Lighting
    1. In Object Mode
    2. Place 3D cursor to the place where you want to create a lamp to there.
    3. Press shift+A to call a menu. Then select Lamp -> Point to create the lamp.
    Saving the render
    1. Press F2 doesn't save the render changes.
    2. Press F12 bring back to image render window.
    3. Press F3 to save the render changes to a image file.
    Image File Format
    • Choose lossy format JPG
    • Or choose lossless format PNG

      Quick model

      Exercise: Make a house
      * Font color is blue, means you must do this in the step.
      Editing in Blender generally involves four steps:
      1. Selecting an object.
      2. Activating Edit Mode.
      3. Selecting part(s) of the object to act upon.
      4. Specifying the action(s) to be performed on those parts.
      Default cube: File -> Load factory setting
      Setting up the viewpoint
      • Num3 to swtich to a perfect right side view.
      • Num5 to switch to a perspective viewpoint.
      • Scroll or NUm+ to zoom it.
      • If lamp or camera is selected , you can't enter edit mode.
      • Press Tab to enter the edit mode.
      Adjust the height
      1. Press TAB to enter the edit mode.
      2. Select four point from the top of the cube.
      3. View -> Right to right view point.
      4. Press G to active grab tool.
      5. Press Z to limit movement to the z-axis.
      6. Now move the mouse to adjust the height.
      7. Press LMB to confirm the change.
      Extruding
      1. View -> Camera -> Active Camera.
      2. Then select four point from the top of the cube.
      3. View -> Right.
      4. Press E to extrude.
      5. Press Z to limit movement to the z-axis.
      6. Press LMB to confirm the change.(Now your right view is selected four vetices)
      7. Press W to call a menu then select Merge ( you can press ALT+M to do this). 
      8. Then select at center. It will merge four vertices to one.
      Saving your work
      1. Press F2 or File-> SaveAs or Ctrl+S
      2. Then key in the file name.
      3. Press Save As Blender File button to save it.

      What is a mesh?

      Exercise

      1. Load the factory settings using File → Load Factory Settings. (default selected the cube)
      2. Make sure the 3D View window is active.
      3. Press  CTRL + SPACE  to toggle the manipulator on or off.
      Edit Mode

      • Press  TAB  once to go into Edit Mode on the cube. (press TAB TAB to toggle on /off edit mode)
      • Edit mode has three modes. Default in vertices selected mode.Because you load factory settings.
      • Delete all cube's vertices. Press X key then it will pop up a delete menu. Select the vertex in delete menu.
      • Press ctrl+LMB to create a vertex then do this action one more time to create another vertex. Blender will auto join two vertices with a edge.
      Create a face
      1. Press A to de-select all vertices. If nothing is selected , press A key to select all vertices.
      2. RMB click to select a vertex.
      3. Shift+RMB to select multiple vertices.
      4. Press F key to create a face.
      5. Press Ctrl+Z to undo.
      Move one or more verties
      1. Using RMB or shift+RMB to select vertex.
      2. Press G to active "grab tool". Now you can move mouse to drag the vertex.
      3. LMB or Enter to confirm the change. RMB or Esc to cancel the changes.
      Try it
      1. Change the viewpoint, perhaps to one of the perfect views.
      2. Add vertices and/or move the existing ones around in the new view plane.
      3. When you're done, rotate to a new viewpoint to examine your work.
